Garmin Alpha Replacement Batteries

A Garmin Alpha that will not hold a charge almost always needs a battery, not a new handheld. The 100, 200, 200i and 300-series handhelds share a user-replaceable lithium-ion pack (Garmin part 361-00053-00), and the collars use their own internal cells. Below is which fits what.

Handheld batteries

The Alpha 100, 200, 200i and 300 handhelds take the same lithium-ion pack, which also fits several Montana units. Replacing it is a user job, not a repair-shop one, and it is the first thing to try when runtime drops off or a unit dies early in the day. If you have an Alpha 100 that quits after an hour, start here before writing it off.

Which battery fits which unit

Match the pack to your handheld before ordering, and note the collars take different cells from the handhelds.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Alpha will not hold a charge. New battery or new unit?

Try the battery first. On the 100, 200 and 300 handhelds it is the most common cause and a cheap, user-replaceable fix. See the troubleshooting page if a fresh pack does not solve it.

Do the handheld and collar use the same battery?

No. The handhelds share one pack; the collars use their own internal cells. Match the part to the device.
