What inReach adds, and what it costs
inReach uses the Iridium satellite network, so it reaches where cell and VHF do not. That means you can message home or trigger an SOS from deep country. It is a subscription, billed monthly or annually through Garmin, and it is the entire reason to choose the 200i over the plain 200.
If you only ever hunt within cell range or always run with a partner, the inReach may be insurance you will not use, and the 200 saves you both the hardware premium and the subscription.
Collars and setup
The 200i bundles with the TT 25 and tracks the T 20, TT 15 and T 5. inReach needs to be activated before your first trip, which is covered in the setup guide. A spare battery matters more here, because satellite messaging draws power.
